Mine's not in a wallet now, but it could be.  I recently grabbed an Ohto Tasche Needle-Point Ballpoint pen:

Works great.  Small.  Fits in a front pants pocket with ease.  I also carry a Platinum Double 8 in my planner, giving me a pencil and two pens: usually blue and black. Blue and red change spots.

I always have a pen on me at all times and also carry a small cheap notepad in my back pocket with my wallet to jott things down with.
For the longest time I just cut a Bic pen in half and it works great and fits in my pocket perfectly. Recently I splurged and bought the Fisher Space Pen and I really like it. The design is probably my favorite part. Perfect size for my pocket and sleek design. The writing is fine for what i do (not upside down or through grease). Im not to picky on how well it writes but I still love it.
