One of the hacks I use to ensure that I always have pen and paper with me is to keep a backup pen and mini hipster PDA in my wallet. Here is the setup...

The Waterfield Wallet - I have the leather version. The beauty of this wallet is the shape and size, as it is designed to be a front pocket wallet. I have carried my wallet in my front pocket for years (since, it was recommended to me as a teenager on my first visit to NYC). It can hold a lot without feeling "bulky". The other reason I love it is that the fabric section at the bottom is the perfect size to cradle my...

Lamy Pico Pen - This pen was given to me as a gift and it has saved my overstuffed noodle dozens of times. When closed it is a bit over 3 inches in length. When opened it extends about another inch and is perectly comfortable to write with at that length. There are many times I have run out of the house and forgotten to pack a pen but only realizing that when I go to write something down. It is nice to always have this "backup" pen at the ready. It is also generally the case that if I have forgotten my pen I have also forgotten my beloved Pocket Briefcase. Therefore, I also carry in my wallet a...

Mini Hipster PDA - Basically, this is a few (3-5) half size index cards (2.5in x 3in) clipped together with a small binder clip. This fits in the center section of the wallet perfectly. Right on top of the pen.

If you are looking for a good, pocket sized portable solution to for your capturing needs that takes up no extra pocket space beyond what you already take with you, you would be hard pressed to find a more elegant solution.

Wow that wallet is exactly what I've been looking for.  For years now I've been carrying aroundThe Jimi, but I've been wanting something that I could keep a couple of memory cards, license, debit card, and maybe some small index cards in.  Awesome stuff.

I should have guessed that being involved in this WLC project was going to be expensive. Jason almost cost me $90 and now I'm eyeballing the Waterfield wallet and the Lamy pen...  Embarrassed

For a while I tried the mini Pilot G-2 stuck in the band of my Moleskine pocket planner, but it had too thick a line for writing, and it smeared more than the Precise V5. The V5 has been my favorite pen since high school, so I've been using them for well over a decade. It's great for sketching and writing, and makes a nice, inky black.

In recent years, I've begun using a G-2 mechanical pencil, and prefer using that when writing in the Moleskines, since it writes smoothly and is erasable.

I usually don't forget a writing utensil since I leave at least a pen or pencil next to my keys which live on the shelf by the door, so I don't forget it on my way out of the house.

I am preferential to the Zebra Sarasa gel pen, when I am not using my Safari FP. I have only been able to find the 0.7mm 'medium' point. But I see on the site that there is a 0.5mm available and I really want to find some and use them.

Why yes, it is. It's a G-2 .5 and I love the way it writes. Yes, it does take a minute to dry but the line is nice and dark and I can write very small. The wallet itself is the pocket briefcase from Levenger, that I received as a gift several years ago.

I carry a Lamy Pico as well and love it.  I am also a huge fan of the Pilot G2.

The wallet for me is an ALL-ETT

It's not exactly in my wallet since it is rather large, but I do keep it in my pocket.  I use the Cross Tech3:

I like have the black pen, red pen, and pencil available to write with.

I use my phone with Jott since I don't always have my Moleskine on hand and I'm a crazy minimalist.

As for the wallet, I LOVE the Big Skinny, which I personally think is the smallest and yet most functional for its size.

If I really needed to have paper, I'd probably carry the PicoPad. There's a similar device I got as a promotional item but I can't seem to find it online.

I too like to use a mechanical pencil, after a very nasty surprise when I reached into my handbag a few years back and my pen had leaked I find it a safer option.   I also like that I can simply just rub out things if I want to keep my notes looking neat.

I carry around a G-2 mini in the zippered loose change section of my wallet.

I prefer .7mm over .5mm, personal preference.

Another great option for a front-pocket wallet is the Dopp Regatta 88 Series Front Getaway Pocket, which happens to be the greatest wallet I have ever owned. It's leather, looks nice, is solidly constructed, has room enough for several cards and decent amount of cash. Currently I also keep 2 blank checks, 1 Moleskine page, and 2 business cards in the thing as well. I keep a Pilot-G2 Mini with me at all times, so I've always  got something to write on.

These are some great options -- thanks.  I would love a smaller wallet!

Now I am just waiting for them to shrink my PDA to the thickness of a credit card... ahhhh!

I guess I must be the couture-type in the group...too much time spent wandering around outlet malls at Osage Beach in Lake Ozark with my wife and her sister.  For the past month or two, I've been sporting the Coach Water Buffalo Card Case, although I've been eyeing the All-Ett for some time.  The card case forces me to tote around only what's absolutely necessary.

For cash (when I carry it, which seems to be fairly infrequently since I'm married Grin), I'll use one of those little binder clips.

From time to time, I'll also carry a pen in my wallet, too.  I've got a Gunmetal Walletini pen from Levenger, and although it doesn't write as well as other pens in my collection, it serves the purpose - and looks pretty snappy, too!  Patrick, it's got the same finish as the Illuminator that I gave you awhile back.
