Hi peeps

Not sure if this is the right board (or even the right forum) for this question, but...

How do people go about self-publicity.  I'm trying to put together a website for my work as a barn-dance caller (US translation - similar to Square Dancing, but easier!  Most of the dances I call for are things like weddings or anniversaries where many of the guests will never have done this sort of dancing before).  I have been a caller for 30 years and get repeat bookings, so I must be doing something right  Grin but I'm having great difficulty putting that down in writing.

Any suggestions as to where to start?  I've had a look at other callers' websites and they're not terribly inspiring either.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Self promotion is a tricky subject. How do you toot your own horn without blowing it? These days people are using Twitter to do a lot of that. I think the best thing to do is just talk about what you do, tell people what it is you do. Talk about barn-dance calling, tell stories about your experiences doing it for the past 30 years. People love stories. Hugh McLeod blogged about an underemployed Savile Row tailor he met in a pub who had all these amazing stories, and he encouraged him to start blogging. Shortly after, EnglishCut was born, to great success. The point I am trying to make is that people are drawn into stories. Tell your story in an engaging way and they will be interested.
