In today's blog post, I shared about my own decision to put one of my blogs on indefinite hiatus. Have you ever had to cut something substantial and important to you from your regular activities? How did you decided to call it quits?

I just read this link from the newsletter in my email inbox.

I'm struggling with the same thing right now. I've run a cartoon blog for some time and have new interests, goals and responsibilities that no longer include cartooning on a regular basis.

Part of my reason for hanging on is that I feel guilty letting it go because I feel like I've failed! Maybe this is because the blog is more public...who knows?

Thanks, anyway, for sharing about your life changes. Best of luck on your master's thesis.

Take care,
Jay

I read "The Dip" yesterday by Seth Godin and he talks about when it's time to quit. Even though it's hard, if you keep on pushing and can become the best, you shouldn't quit. If you keep on pushing and it takes you nowhere, you should quit. An even harder decision is when you are going someplace now, but you can see it plateauing, you should quit.

This is where, for me at least, the 80/20 rule shines. I've cut out several blogs and hobbies because they no longer fitted into that 20% of stuff that gave me 80% of the value in my life. I was getting nothing out of them anymore (they may even have been taking from me in time and energy). I think when you've found activities that you genuinely care about and get a lot out of, it's much easier to make the sacrifice.
