Great post! This is a great strategy for deepening relationships. Taking notes on conversations helps to me to go back and make sure I remember the really important parts of the discussion. It also serves a great record for future reference when you may want to plan your next conversation based on previously discussed topics.

Nathan, I also like the idea of asking other to take notes. It gives them a bigger role in the conversation and helps them to take ownership. The next time you have a meeting with this person you can ask them about the notes, and build on that foundation.
